How does it work?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called Hyaluronidase, also called Hyalase. It is present in the body naturally, which is why filler doesn’t last forever as the body naturally breaks it down over months or years. However if you want to rapidly remove unwanted filler Hyalase can be used in higher concentrations to do this. Hyalase comes as a powder which is then mixed with water and injected directly into the filler area. It starts working immediately and continues to work over a few days-weeks. Initially there might be some swelling but you should be able to see results instantly. Depending on how much filler there is, more than one dissolving session may be needed.
Why dissolve filler?
- Wrongly injected
- Overfilled
- Filler migration
- Undesirable aesthetic result, doesn’t suit you or no longer the look you want
- Complications such as reaction, infection, lumps or nodules, vascular occlusion (a medical emergency)
Frequently Asked Questions
– Swelling
– Bruising
– Occasionally mild discomfort when injecting – Dissolving of filler in the lips causing a thin appearance which may not be aesthetically desirable
Hyaluronidase starts working immediately and continues to work over the following 48 hours so you should see an instant result. Sometimes swelling immediately after dissolving can make it seem like it hasn’t worked, but this settles within 24-48 hours. All filler brands are different and if the filler is very deep, has worked its way into the tissues or has built up over time and grown scar tissue around it, it may require more than one sitting in order to dissolve it all.
Once fully dissolved you can have filler in the same area, as long as your practitioner is happy to do so and after a detailed assessment of the area. We often find that clients come to us because they aren’t happy with someone else’s work and want the previous filler dissolved in order to start again. However you must wait at least two weeks after dissolving filler before further filler treatment can be administered.
We recommend waiting at least two weeks before undergoing any other aesthetic treatments.
