What is LED Light Therapy & What is it used for?

LED phototherapy uses three different wavelengths of light - called blue, red and infrared. Initially this kind of light was found to improve wound healing and promote tissue growth, and has now been found to be beneficial in the treatment of a variety of other skin complaints. The different wavelengths can be used separately or in combination to achieve the desired result.

- BLUE light helps reduce oil production in the skin, improves acne and helps reduce acne scarring

- RED light is used for anti-aging, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and stimulating collagen and elastin. It also has anti-inflammatory and skin healing benefits so can be used for scarring

- INFRARED light has similar anti-aging effects of red light but also helps reduce pigmentation, evens skin tone and brightens dull skin.

LED phototherapy has been proven to help in many skin conditions including:

- Acne
- Dermatitis
- Eczema
- Psoriasis
- Rosacea
- Sun damage
- Wound healing

Frequently Asked Questions

– Side effects are rare as this is a very safe treatment however can occur

– Can cause redness, irritation or rarely inflammation

– Should not be used if using oral Tretinoin (Accutane)

LED light does NOT contain any ultraviolet (UV) light rays and is therefore not harmful to the skin. This means it is safe for regular use on any skin type, and on bare skin. Of course, we would always recommend a good skincare regime that includes SPF for all clients regardless of what type of treatment they are getting.

While some clients see subtle results immediately after a single treatment, to maximise results and ensure longer lasting effects we recommend a course of several treatments, depending on your skin complaint. Our practitioners will conduct a full skin assessment and make an individualised treatment plan tailored to you.

The different types of light can be used separately or in combination. All three light wavelengths are safe to use together.
