Treatment Aftercare at The Private Practice
Following your treatment, it's important to follow the advice below. In general, you should keep hydrated throughout the day, be extra vigilant about sun protection and avoid disturbing wounds as they heal, otherwise run the risk of poor results, infection and scarring. Below you’ll find some aftercare information for our most popular treatments.

FAT DISSOLVING AFTERCARE
Fat dissolving injections are acidic which means they are irritating to skin and body tissue. So, it is normal to expect redness, swelling, achey discomfort and occasionally bruising immediately after this treatment. These are temporary and will resolve in a few days (swelling can last for longer but the worst of it should resolve quickly). To prevent further irritation to the area and to keep it sterile we recommend:
-
For the first 6 hours after fat dissolving treatment AVOID:
- Touching or massaging the area -
For the first 24 hours after fat dissolving treatment AVOID:
- Applying makeup
- Heavy alcohol intake
- Intense exercise -
Until all swelling has resolved AVOID:
- Exposing the area to extremes of temperature and radiation, i.e. intense heat including very hot baths and showers, steam rooms or saunas and direct sunlight/UV rays -
You CAN:
- Apply Arnica to ease bruising
- Take simple painkillers such as Paracetamol if needed (please note taking Aspirin can make bruising worse)
- Use a warm or cool compress to relieve discomfort
- Use a compression garment (such as chin strap) for 2-5 days post-procedure
- Contact us if you have any queries or concerns -
Other important information:
- Nodules are not uncommon - they can last for weeks but usually disappear without needing any intervention. Always ask for an assessment if you are concerned about nodules.
- Depending on the treatment area, multiple treatments will be required and so the full result may not be seen until some weeks after the final treatment is given.
PROFHILO AFTERCARE
Profhilo is well tolerated and often you can have this treatment and continue with your day, with no downtime. Occasionally mild tenderness and bruising can occur but this will settle quickly. Profhilo is given in small ‘deposits’ which might be seen initially as small lumps under the skin but they usually settle within hours. To prevent skin irritation after having Profhilo we recommend:
-
For the 12 hours after Profhilo treatment AVOID:
- Wearing makeup
- Touching the area -
For the first 24 hours after Profhilo treatment AVOID:
- Rigorous exercise
- Heavy alcohol intake -
For 14 days after Profhilo treatment, especially if bruising has occurred, AVOID:
- Direct sunlight
- Extremes of heat or cold
Please contact us if you have ongoing swelling, bruising or pain that does settle after the first few days
