What is Cryolipolysis?
Cryolipolysis, better known as fat freezing, uses a special cooling machine to freeze fat cells under the skin. The frozen fat cells are destroyed and removed from the body via lymphatic drainage. By using this technology, we can target stubborn areas of fat in order to create a more toned appearance. This technology is not to be used as a replacement for weight loss, but more for toning and shifting those stubborn areas that are difficult to get rid of even with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

During your consultation, we will assess the area(s) in question to see if you are suitable for this treatment. The procedure itself takes less than an hour (per area) however you will need a full consultation beforehand where a body assessment including measurements and weight will be taken, which extends the appointment time.
It is a non-invasive procedure which means there are no needles or injections involved.
Once we decide to go ahead with your treatment, the area is exposed and a protective sheet soaked in cooling gel is placed over the area. The vacuum cups on the freezing machine are placed over the area and the fat pocket is sucked up and cooled until at the ideal temperature for fat freezing. Only the fat will be frozen; skin and other tissues are not affected as fat freezes at a different temperature to other body tissues. The total freezing time is around 45 minutes for a large area.
Fat freezing is a one off treatment, but can be repeated after 3 months for a more pronounced result. Multiple areas can be treated, but each area can only be treated once (plus one further session after 3 months, if deemed appropriate).
The body will take several weeks to flush out the destroyed fat cells, so typically results become visible after 8-12 weeks. Express results can be achieved in 6 weeks if fat freezing is followed by a course of weekly shockwave therapy – this will be discussed with you during your consultation.
As this is non-invasive technology there are minimal side effects to this treatment. During the treatment the vacuum device has to clamp tightly to the skin – this may cause some discomfort. Immediately after the treatment there may be some redness and mild swelling of the area. Occasionally bruising can be seen which should resolve within a few days. The skin will feel cold and numb; most clients find this last only a few hours but in some clients this can last up to 6 weeks.
There may be some discomfort associated with the vacuum device holding on tightly to the skin, but the process of fat freezing itself should not be painful.
